Can artificial intelligence be a creator?

Description The issue of the copyright status of the products made with the use artificial intelligence, as well as artificial intelligence itself, has been one of the hottest debate topics in recent months, and not only within the copyright doctrine. The fear of replacing human creativity with automated “creativity” has already appeared and even taken a concrete form, for example, in the form of a screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood. It turns out that self-learning artificial intelligence is not a science fiction fantasy that will never come true, or an idea to be realised in a distant future. Apparently this future is already here.

The analysis of AI in the copyright context is particularly important because it seems that at the moment – although it has been going on for a while – we are in a stalemate situation in which all proposals have been put on the table, but none has gained the approval of the majority. At the same time, we are all aware that the issue of the status of artificial intelligence systems themselves and their products must be regulated as soon as possible. But why is this issue so complex? This is what the lecture will try to answer.
