Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are essential in Design education, fostering innovation by embracing diverse perspectives. EDI ensures all students have equal opportunities, enhancing learning outcomes, and promoting a more conscious design culture. Integrating EDI into Design education cultivates empathetic professionals who create inclusive, equitable, and innovative design solutions.
Description | The presentation will show current EDI approaches in higher education Design programmes, best practices for achieving EDI goals, and digital tools to foster high-quality education. The project research results in an interpretative database of teaching modules, methodologies, and tools related to EDI. The final outcome will be a digital educational platform providing multilingual open-access content on EDI for Design and Design-related programmes, enabling inclusive access to lectures, modules, and seminars. Ready-to-use content will reduce knowledge gaps in Design and EDI across various fields, such as industrial design, visual communication, and architecture.
The study was conducted as part of an ongoing 3-year Erasmus+ project KA220-HED – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education – entitled: Open Access Contents on Design for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion for Higher Education Programmes (acronym EDIDesK), made in collaboration within a partnership of 5 European universities and 2 significant international associations:
