Paweł Zakrajewski, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Institute of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. His scientific interests center on LSP – Language(s) for Specific Purposes, discourse analysis, rhetoric, communication (especially new media), translation, cross-cultural & cross-linguistic comparative studies, and language policy. Recently, he has been involved in several projects related to genre and linguistic analysis, and science communication. 

Title: E-workshop of a university teacher – problems, trends, solutions 

Summary

The main aim of the workshop is to introduce its participants to the Toolbox – an effective and universal set of solutions which can support university teachers in remote teaching. The workshop consists of three parts: 1) presentation of the guide of selected methods of remote work and online verification of learning outcomes, along with the indication of practical and useful digital tools and their implementation; 3) presentation of a set of materials that, due to their universality, can be used in remote classes by teachers from different fields; 3) voices on distance learning – a discussion with workshop participants on their experiences with the implementation of various tools in remote teaching: advantages, disadvantages, and tips for future users.

Title: Activating methods in use
 
Summary
Activating methods, or better speaking, methods engaging students during the course, are not a set of proven methods. Behind this is a comprehensive way of individualizing the learning process, awareness of group processes, as well as preparation to flexibly build not so much a program, but a work process in various, changing university conditions. Therefore, we invite you to the workshops where we will not only learn about various methods to activate our students, but above all, we will explore the secrets of didactic work involving mindfulness, cooperation and fun. We will run the workshops using the world cafe method. At individual tables you will discuss not only the popular activating methods selected by you, but most of all – you will consider for what purpose they should be used, what effect we want to achieve and how much independence should be allowed our students in the learning process.

Title: Searching for effectiveness in the inclusion of gender equality into teaching content 
 
Summary
Equality and diversity issues have been present in social sciences for several decades, especially in sociology (Raewyn Connell, Judith Lorber, Pierre Bourdieu), philosophy (Judith Butler, Elizabeth Grosz), cultural anthropology (Margaret Mead, Ruth Benedict, Michelle Rosaldo), psychology (Karen Horney, Sandra Lipsitz Bem, Linda Brannon), emancipatory and critical pedagogy (Paulo Freire, Henry Giroux, bell hooks). As a result of the political activities undertaken by the European Commission (EC), the issue of (gender) inequality is also part of the mainstreaming policy. The EC recommends the implementation of a gender mainstreaming approach in the organization of research and academic teaching. In connection with these directives, we can expect an increased interest in including the issue of (in)equality in programs of study at many universities and, similarly to ours (in connection with the Gender Equality Plan), seeking ways to implement EC recommendations. Therefore, we would like to tell you about our teaching experience in this field, using one course as a case study. 
 
During our lectures (in the framework of T4E week), we tested several methods, techniques, and paths for teaching about gender and diversity, and we would like to share our experiences. We used online learning, networking, peer learning, lectures and workshops, information exchange platforms, films, pod-casts, and exhibitions. The result of the course was an increase in knowledge in the field of understanding and interpretation of social research on social inequalities; psychosocial mechanisms responsible for the formation and use of stereotypes; gender discrimination in the labour market, politics, justice, science, and education; European anti-discrimination law. The result was also increased critical thinking skills and working in international groups on the design of anti-discrimination activities (e.g., posters). In conclusion, we want to present the selected results of this case study as potential good educational practices.

Łukasz Machura, PhD, DSc is an associate professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice.  He participated in several projects popularizing programming skills aimed at students of both universities and high schools (From an Algorithm to a Professional, pRobot, CyberMil). He was the leader of the CC Infinite (Computing Competences. Innovative learning approach for non-IT students) project. He is one of the principal originators of the interdisciplinary study program Digital Communication, which has been successfully implemented at the University of Silesia I Katowice since 2020. He has years of experience in teaching programming to both science and humanities students, which he gained by developing and teaching programming courses, algorithms, time series analysis and numerical methods.

Forcing the computer to execute commands, not only with applications but by building our software, seems to be reserved for IT specialists. The ability to write programs appears almost like casting a spell, as if only available to the handful of geeks usually sitting in dark casemates. During the workshop, we will try to disenchant this vision and show how to simply simulate a game of darts with a computer using the most straightforward programming concepts. We will also see what this game has to do with one of the most exciting numbers in the world – π. This workshop can be an accessible introduction to solving problems we encounter at school or work and automating everyday tasks. 
The workshop will introduce students to the world of programming in a relatively gentle way. In less than an hour, we will show you that you can easily solve real problems by knowing several programming methods and constructs. Students will also learn the basics of Python!

– Marta Więckowska, Ph.D. (Dean of Faculty of Design, Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice)

Design researcher, manager, design educator, and Dean of the Faculty of Design of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice. Since 2008, she has been teaching and developing research methods and studying their impact on the design process. She was a member of the executive team of the Design Silesia project (2010–2013) where she was responsible for the organization of events promoting awareness and best design practices across the public space and business sectors. Since 2017, she has implemented three EU-funded projects that stimulate the development of the faculty. Her mission is to constantly improve the educational process. As Dean, she has launched a new Master’s degree programme named Inclusive Design: Health and Social Well-Being. An enthusiast of integration and unconventional methods of team-building, she is constantly looking for inspiration and new knowledge, recently completing the Leadership Academy For Poland and Inclusive Design training run by The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, RCA London.

Working in higher education since 2005, involved in internationalisation through university partnerships, exchanges, international admissions and EU-funded projects focusing on education and development.

Title: Enhancing the quality of education through various forms of training and international cooperation.

Summary

The presentation will examine the main factors that influence the development of the Faculty of Design (AFAD Katowice), including different training sessions and international cooperation. Implementing EU-funded projects has allowed us to systemically support various forms of academic teachers’ development and to promote the debate on current design trends in Poland and abroad, the role of designers and the desired learning outcomes. We will present the process, the strategies implemented and the main results, with a focus on the impact on the educational process: the quality of the educational user experience, keeping the learning content up-to-date, ensuring first-rate competences of the educators.

The Faculty of Design educational offer in Design focuses on seeking solutions to real current needs based on the knowledge of newest technologies and trends in universal design, sustainable design, visual communication, new media, UX design, service and product design.

The Faculty of Design, Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice, actively engages in innovative projects and the cultural and industrial transformations in Upper Silesia, with its academics and graduates taking up projects significant for the region and carrying out the mission to face and tackle the complex challenges related to the role of design in improving the quality of life, well-being and public health by including users in the design process. In recognition of its scientific, creative and developmental activities the Faculty was ranked in the highest A+ category by the Ministry of Education and Science in 2017, and again in 2022 with the entire Academy.

Marco Navarra, PhD

Marco Navarra is a researcher (PhD) in Sociology of Cultural Processes and a member of the “Media Culture Society” Study Center of the University of Salerno, directed by Prof. Gino Frezza. In the last ten years he has participated in European research and innovation projects on the themes of lifelong learning, media literacy, urban regeneration, e-learning, gender issues. He led the establishment of public-private partnerships for the sustainable development of internal areas of the Campania Region. He is a contract lecturer at public and private institutions, both Italian and foreign, on the themes of cultural planning and project cycle management. His research interests range from cultural and communicative processes to regional sciences, with a particular focus on culture-driven participatory local development processes. 
 
Title: Skills mismatch in the European cultural and creative industries market: the key factor of an innovative university education
 
Summary
University research is now called upon to respond to the growing innovation needs of the European labor market, in the light of the strong social transformations taking place. The specialist and professional skills acquired in university no longer seem sufficient to respond to market demands.  
 
Companies must be able to respond to market logics that no longer translate only into identifying products or objects to sell, but investigate horizons of individual and group self-realization, models of behavior: this is the change required from the overall evolution of the current technological society. This is particularly true for consumption in the cultural and creative sector. Companies and brands operating in these sectors have an interest in creating a dialogic relationship with a typical consumer who has become increasingly active and participatory, thanks to the means of communication and, in particular, to social networks. The cultural product thus conceived needs to be engraved in a profile corresponding to the profound identity of consumers, before and more than sold. 
 
It is in this context that the well-known problem of skills mismatch between job supply and demand arose. A real emergency, which finds particular confirmation in the demand coming from the cultural and creative industry, where professional figures with markedly interdisciplinary skills are required, able to integrate the knowledge of classical knowledge and our cultural heritage with the productive, artistic and media forms of contemporaneity. 
 
The European project TESEO, managed by the Study Center Media Culture Society of the University of Salerno (Italy), has tried to respond to the problem of mismatch through the creation of training courses for the development of digital skills with the aim of dealing with the social dynamics created by globalization and responding to the needs of innovation of increasingly connected and competitive markets. 
It is therefore necessary to align the training processes with the needs expressed by the market. For this purpose, the knowledge of participatory cultural planning techniques for designing transnational research projects capable of generating innovation is central for European researchers.

Agata Zygmunt, PhD is a sociologist, assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia in Katowice, and degree programme director of urban policies and public counselling, sociology, social work, and human resources management. She is an accredited academic tutor. Her scientific research interests are issues in the field of sociology of social problems, demography and social policy. 
 
Giota Digkoglou is a researcher and project manager working in the implementation of research and educational projects. She is especially involved in projects that promote responsible use of resources and sustainable development through education, while she develops educational programs that support continuous professional and personal growth. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Business Administration of the University of Macedonia, with a specialization in combining multicriteria decision analysis with argumentation theory in enterprises.
 
 
Title: Facing the challenges of the real world through social entrepreneurship  
 
Summary:
 
The workshop will present the design of an e-learning course on social entrepreneurship, which was developed within the framework of the international project “Prosper – PROmoting Social entre Preneurship in higher Education for a prospeRous society”. A sample course module on the Moodle platform will be presented, including materials for course participants to study independently. In addition, user manuals for this course will be discussed. Apart from its content value, the presented course is an excellent example of practical use of gamification elements as a modern teaching method.

Joanna Maszybrocka, PhD, is an academic teacher with over 20 years of work experience.  Her research interests are related to additive manufacturing of advanced materials. Author of over 60 scientific papers, coordinator of 1 research project, assistant supervisor in two doctoral dissertations. Since 2011, she has been intensely involved in didactic and organizational activities, which are to be the University’s response to the changes taking place in the social and economic environment. Its activities focus on selecting methods and teaching techniques that will allow graduates to equip a comprehensive set of skills, combining, among others, elements such as materials engineering, mechatronics, computer science, biomedical engineering with the simultaneous ability to understand the overall technological process. At the same time, she is involved in the process of implementing and developing the education quality assurance system at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
 
Title: The Employability Skills of Engineering Students
 
Summary:
 
Awareness of the growing relationship between education and the labour market requires educational activities to shape students’ competencies as closely correlated with the labour market requirements. In order to prepare students to compete in the labour market, it is necessary to know the expectations of employers in the scope of the relevant competencies of potential job candidates. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to see the results of the “Materials Science Ma(s)ters – developing a new master’s degree” project. The workshop aims to discuss the current challenges in skills development of engineering students and how these challenges can be turned into future opportunities. The workshop will bring together experts to exchange views and experiences, share best practices and lessons learned, and present recommendations on integrating employability skills into academic and technical skill instruction.

Description:

The proposed presentation summarises experiences learned from the Erasmus+ project “Competences in Health Network Management (Com.HeNet)”, which run between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2022. The project connected 6 partners from different European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Spain), who worked together to develop competence profile and curriculum modules for “Health Network Management” with a European standard. Both the profile and curriculum are assumed to enable a health professional to implement and manage a health network (HN) on regional level. The curriculum that we developed was tested through a pilot training with participants representing the proposed target groups of degree holders in health and health professionals. The curriculum modules are expected to get included into higher education and vocational education curricula to enable health professionals to implement and manage regional health networks in EU countries. In the long run, the project contributes to the improvement of regional health services supply structures in EU countries, both by the educational, management-related manner, and the promotion of knowledge about the regional health networks, a relatively new, partnership-based structures expected to improve the access to health services, and to increase the efficiency of service provision. The presentation summarises the outcomes of our work, along with the concrete impact that we have already observed. This includes our contribution to the development of the new edition of public health specialist competence profile developed by ASPHER, and the development of innovative problem-based blended teaching formula that we applied during our pilot training.

Piotr Romaniuk is associate professor at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. He is head of the Department of Health Policy and Chair of the University’s Board of Health Sciences. His research interests focus on health systems, health system transitions and different aspects of social and health policies. Piotr Romaniuk has a broad teaching experience in areas related to health policy systems, design and decision-making. His experience includes providing teaching for international students and foreign universities. 

Yvonne Behrens  is the research coordinator of the Competences in Health Network Management project as well as a research associate in other international projects at the Institute for Health and Social Affairs at the FOM University of Applied Sciences. Her research interests are dementia and migration as well as the promotion of health and social participation of vulnerable groups.

Zsófia Kollányi holds an MA and PhD degree in Social Policy Analysis from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, and an MSc in Economics from Corvinus University, Budapest. She has been teaching health and health policy-related classes as well as economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences, ELTE for about ten years. Her main areas of professional interest are social and health inequalities, the complexity of health and the challenge of how to channel all these aspects into policy making. She is involved in several research projects, mostly related to community-based, participatory, public health research and development.
